Daley & Deacon | 6.18.12

The day before I left for my 6 week trip to WA I was fortunate enough to have a client want me to take photos of her children. So amidst packing I loaded up and headed over to her house. I welcomed the break from packing!! Trying to fit everything needed for 6 weeks in one large suitcase and one carry on is not fun! BTW it didn’t all fit when I was ready to head back home but that’s an entirely different story! haha (There’s two pair of shoes who got left behind that are having to travel back solo)

This little girl is a spitfire!! She kept me on my toes and laughing the entire shoot. Except for shots like this where she left me catching my breath.

This little man was the serious of the two haha. He’s already trying out GQ faces!!

I love each of these equally, couldn’t pick one over the other!

She had a BLAST with these shots!! We had to do it twice haha!!

I would LOVE to take credit for this but I cannot….this was all momma’s idea!! I love it!

Hope everyone is having a pleasant Summer. It’s soooo hot here in Texas, looking forward to the cooler temps!!

Newborn Session {Harper}

Meet Harper! She weighed in at 9lbs 13oz and was 21.5″ long with a head full of thick dark hair. 10 days new.

The sun set and it was amazing light! Headband made by yours truly. Basket found at Ross or TJ Maxx (can’t remember) Purple wrap, well that was just fabric I bought at Joann’s. Look at all that hair!!!

The cute little bed was found at a garage sale for $2, headband made by yours truly, and the fabric is from Joann’s. The diaper cover is my favorite! I crocheted the cover and then sewed on ruffles I hand made. It was too little for her so I just tucked it around her. The headband is a Yo-Yo with a vintage button glued to the center.

We of course had to get the older siblings in some pics, too!!

And last but not least…

Please note that this is a composite shot. Do not EVER attempt this shot without an assistant (mom was my helper) to support baby’s head at all times. Newborn safety is crucial!! No shot is worth harming a baby.

Blaine July 4th {Parade}

Here are a few photos from the Blaine, WA Fourth of July parade. I didn’t take a whole bunch mainly because I wanted to really enjoy the parade and being constantly behind the camera doesn’t always allow you to be fully present. Fellow photogs I’m sure you can sympathize with me here. So anyhoo here’s what I got….Last year was my first time visiting during this season and I obviously enjoyed it enough to come back again this year!This little town was packed!! They have an open car show with some really awesome cars. There are tons of things for the kids, free live music, great food, and vendors galore! Oh and did I mention the perfect weather, nothing but blue skies and a cool breeze!And it begins with the most important thing…a tribute to our military….past, present, and fallen.As they walked carrying the banners of the fallen soldiers they were surrounded by the sounds of everyone…I mean EVERYONE…standing and clapping them on. The most moving thing I’ve ever witnessed hands down.

I loved the horses!!Then came all the cool old trucks and cars. Afterwards we stopped and bought some roasted nuts. Oh my….they were fantastic!!My sister and niece.Hey look that’s me!They bought us matching shirts!!And to complete my Fourth of July outfit, my blue/white striped Toms. The edit makes them look washed out but they’re a darker blue. I got lots of compliments about them! Thanks Katie from Sobo Fashion Lounge in Fort Worth, TX. If you need Toms go see her!!

Hope you too had a wonderful holiday!!

A Powerful Symbol {the Eagle}

“but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” – Isaiah 40:31

I left my camera at the house. We were only going to buy groceries, right? I didn’t need it.

As we’re driving around the bay I see a man with a nice camera and zoom lens aiming up high and shooting away. My heart sank. He sees something good. Yep, there it was sitting atop a tall tree overlooking its territory….the bald eagle. I pulled over and immediately began kicking myself in the you-know-what!

I try to video chat a couple of people from Texas, I had to share this experience with someone! I get my brother on the line but the video is too pixelated and he can’t see it. Okay that does it, we’re turning around to retrieve my camera. That bird better still be sitting there when I get back.

I drive the 25mph speed limit…kill me now I’m in a hurry!…back to the house. I run upstairs and grab everything. I’m speaking out loud positive thoughts to my niece sitting next to me the whole way back. “He’ll still be there.” “He’s not going anywhere.” “He’ll still be there, right?” I’m nervous and want that dang bird to remain seated and I have no clue of my odds of this actually happening. We don’t have many (any) eagles flying around Brock, TX.

Again, 25mph back around the bay and I’m chanting the whole way…”He’ll still be there. He’ll still be there. He’ll still be there. ” And it isn’t until we are right up on that tree that I spot that wonderful creature and let out a “Whoop Whoop!”

I jump outta the Jeep and start snapping away. I don’t have a wonderful zoom and am now kicking myself again in the you-know-what for not buying that one before I left. Oh well, I make the best of it. I don’t think anyone could tire of seeing these massive, almost mystical, birds. They seriously stop me in my tracks. Every time. God is amazing. His creations are amazing. Amen.
